The Benguerir Mine
Benguerir’s experimental open-pit mine marks a significant step forward in OCP’s industry 4.0 approach. It is one of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University’s testing sites that is open to the scientific community and allows researchers from partner universities to test full-scale solutions in key areas. Called the “Advanced Mining Technology Platform,” this pilot mine has many purposes.
The project places OCP Group at the cutting edge of technological progress with respect to mining and management. It serves to attract equipment and technology suppliers and researchers by offering them a place to carry out full-scale tests in an industrial environment. The goal is to create real expertise at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University based on learning by doing.
The mine project began in August 2017 and is connected to 21 digitalization projects, including industrial management, artificial intelligence, automation, and maintenance projects related to improving extraction processes, among others.
Several projects have been developed, such as the real-time control of facilities in order to support decision-making and the automation of operations in order to reduce the risks associated with human operator errors, thus ensuring greater safety and productivity.
Beyond the ongoing projects, the experimental mine also showcases OCP’s digitalization expertise and makes it possible for the entire R&D ecosystem to take benefit from cutting-edge innovation and experimentation.
