OCP Group and AFD Group formalize their strategic partnership in support of Morocco’s low-carbon transition and the development of sustainable and inclusive agriculture

OCP Group and AFD announce the signing of a €350 million financing agreement to support the implementation of OCP Group’s $13 billion green investment program for the 2023–2027 period.

This program is designed to enable OCP Group to use 100% clean energy by 2027 and to fully cover its industrial water needs with non-conventional sources. It also aims to increase the Group’s capacity to produce decarbonized fertilizers, notably by integrating green ammonia, in order to progressively reduce its carbon footprint and achieve carbon neutrality across its entire value chain by 2040.

The program further aims to provide farmers – particularly in Africa – with green fertilizers that are sustainably produced and specifically tailored to the needs of local crops, climates, and soils. Combined with support for the development of innovative precision agronomic practices and improved access to finance and markets, this strategy is intended to help farmers maximize productivity, contribute to food security, and combat climate change.

As part of OCP Group’s decarbonization trajectory, this corporate financing from AFD will be disbursed based on the achievement of performance indicators, with a focus on the following:

• • Increasing production capacity for clean energy and non-conventional water;
• • Developing green hydrogen and green ammonia production;
• • Integrating climate and biodiversity indicators into the Group’s risk management processes.

In line with their shared ambition to promote sustainable agriculture across the African continent, AFD Group and OCP Group also signed, on April 17, 2025, a financing agreement for the multi-stakeholder platform MAVA (Mobilizing for Agricultural Value Chains in Africa), led by INNOVX. The platform aims to mobilize and structure financing mechanisms for agricultural value chains in Africa and to strengthen food production and distribution systems by supporting innovative initiatives and start-ups across the continent.

Through these two financing agreements, the partners are concretely advancing their shared commitment to the low-carbon transition, green fertilizer production in Morocco, and the development of sustainable and inclusive agriculture to advance food security in Africa.
